SERVICE VOTES
Scrutineers Return From Pacific (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 17. Four political party scrutineers who went to the Pacific area to take part in tiie official count of the service votes cast at the general election returned to the Dominion yesterday. They were Mr. M. Moohan, secretary of the Now Zealaud Labour Party, Mr. M. S. Nestor, private secretary to the Leader of the Opposition, acting for the National Party, Mr. W. E. Millar, representing the Democratic Labour Party, and Air. W. Sinton, who went on behalf of the Independent candidates sponsored by the People's Movement. A lot of people, some of whom ought to know better, were inclined to criticize the way the voting results from the Pacific were handled,” said Air. Sinton. “They could have no conception of the difficulties that had to be overcome. In many places where men were stationed it was , difficult to make contact with them. I cannot speak too highly of the efficiency with which the whole organization of taking the votes was handled. “I do not think it would have been possible to select two better men than the two returning officers who ca Tv led out the job,” he continued., “There perhaps could be some criticism as to the amount of electioneering information that was available to the men but as regards the conduct of the voting there could .be no objections.”
