It taxed tne totalizator facilities to the utmost, and a* a c onse(| tie nee the meeting llnlshed halt an hour late. The chub did not anticipate the patronage at all well, racebooks being sold out early, and the catering, in quantum, was far from adequate. f The totalizator handled £ol,-lt>o. pared with £311,144 at Olaki last year. Ihe total tfor the hvo-dily mooting when tne club last raced on its own course two years ago was &19.2G9/10/-. . ” Joseph €onrad. a three-year-old ?Ught Kaid gelding who had started only, tour times previously, ran on very truly to win the Opaki Trial Stakes from Man s Pride and .Leybourne. He w T as several places -back turning for home, and at the last furlong joined issue with Leybourne and Meermint, while Man’s Pride, who had lost his place early in the race, also put in a late claim. In a hard finish Joseph Lonrad w’on by a neck from Man’s Pride with Leybourne only a heat! away third. Meermint beat the others, of whom Blainchburn Lord Darnley and -Some iSing did best. ! Po-Huka outstayed his eight opponents in the Blairlogie High weight. He worked into a good position half-way through the race and ran on too well for Moderate, who was the only challenger over the last furlong, these two finishing well clear or Colonel Rouge, who narrowly beat the favourite Siglow for third money. The lastnamed pulled hard, under restraint, going along the back and could not bridge the gap to the leaders in the Iftst furlong. Crispin, who made most of the pace, weakened at the end of a mile. The Nursery Handicap, for two-yeat-olds, was run in two divisions, and was contested largely by unraced juveniles. In the first heat Sir Croupier, Master Barom Lolghon’s GJon- and Martial Note got a wav best and led to the straight from a bunch headed by Young Margaret. Master Baron ran wide at the straight entrance, giving Young Margaret au opening, and she soon got to the front, where she remained, deispiti! a Dot late challenge from Martial Note, and won by half n length, with Leighoh’s Glory Hiking third place ahead of Lord Theio, Barrage, Intense and Trick. Subdued, a filly by Ringmaster from Submission, raced by her breeder, Mr. G. M. Currie, led all the way and won very easily in impressive style. She was followed throughout by the favourite, Hoodlki, Who galloped ’ well, but had no chance with the winner. Killarney Boy. who was prominent behind the leaders throughout, finished third, with Desert Victory, Lady Bev and dannie Girl best of the remainder, who were strung out over a furlong. Handicap to Gleiifnlloeh. There was a close finish between Glenfalloch and Nightrny for the Masterton Handicap. These two came on the scene after Nighean and Don had t led to the straight, where Glenfalloeli, Fiddler s Green and Crucible were handiest, and at the distance Glenfalloeli had this lot beaten. He then was tackled by Nlglitray, who came fast on the outside, and after a tense struggle Glenfalloeli took the decision by a long head after a very gams performance. Don Quex, the favourite, was three lengths away third, and Cruelbw was fourth. The others were well beatoii, fiddler’s Green finishing last. Piastre did not reproduce his Otaki form. Water Mound, making his first appearance for a year, led all the way to win the Gladstone Handicap. Royal Heir tried to go .with him throughout and hung on till ’inside the last furlong, but thou collapsed. and it was left to Mr. Valiant to come from the ruck with a dazzling burst to run Water Hound to half a length. Magnus Lux and Dungloe. who were prominent behind the leaders throughout, loomed up in the last closing stage of the race and dead-heated for third only a head behind Mr. Valiant. Royal Heir arrived next just ahead of Kaitoa, who was ac the rear early and took the longest route home. Lenardo and Whackie, who finished first and second in the Solway Handicap, were both involved in some shuffling in the early stages of the race and lost their positions. I.enardo received the check first and handed it on to 'Whackie. At this stage Daljarrock was setting a good puce from Rink and Screen, but as they approached the straight, Lenardo and Whackie hud moved up in behind the three pacemakers again. Half wav down the running Lenardo took over and Whackie made his run on the outside. It was another hard finish, Lenardo hanging on to Win by a neck. A length away. Rink, finishing well, took third money from his stablemate. Screen, find Hasten finished fast from the back to beat the others. Poutatau, who looked well, did not run up to bis usual form, Another head finish in the Champion Hack Handicap.went in favour of Patu Po, who ran down 'Solver ill the last furlong. Solver, Greenfeast, Lastik, Ozel, Foxcatcher, Madame Rachel, Carntorth, Great March, and Patu Po wns the order across tlie top stretch, and soon after passing the distance Solver had the others settled with most danger looking possible from Great March who was putting in a late run.. Then Patu Po moved off the fence io join in the struggle and he bested Solver only <n the last few strides, to win by « head Great March was only a short length back third, and Foxcatcher was well up fourth. Madame Rachel, Greenfeast and Carnforth did best of the others. Tc Awe Awe. a well-backed second favourite took a short head decision over the maiden, Tara King. In the Lansdowne Handicap. Lady Spiral led for home from Tara King, Te Awe Awe, High Ideal and La Serena. Inside the lust furlong, Tara Bing and Te Awe Awe drew awny from the others and momentarily Tara Klug got his head in front, but the more seasoned Te Awe AW6 wore him down to win by a narrow margin, Lady Spiral ran a solid race to beat the others for third, and Ilijrli Ideal showed improvement on recent running to take fourth place with Polario, Hamish and Sandy Bay next.
