Government Support Urged By Plunket Deputation

Assurance was given in Wellington yesterday to a deputation from the Dominion council of the Plunket Society by Dr. Finlay, on behalf of the Minister ot Health, that in a few weeks he hoped to have recommendations to make regarding help in the home for mothers with families. . . , The deputation asked for the Ministers support for a rehabilitation course to train housekeepers, for homecraft as ail elective course in the new educational scheme, and for the extension of the free kindergarten and nursery school systems. It was also proposed that social security payments to widows and pensioners should not be affected if they, were serving as housekeepers or helps for mothers with several young children. During the recent half-yearly meeting of the society’s Dominion council. Miss G. Thomson was appointed as its assistant nursing adviser. Miss Thomson is well qualified for the post. In addition* to holding general, midwifery and Phinket certificates, she recently took a postgraduate course in Wellington. Her nursing experience includes appointments in Rhodesia and Johannesberg, and, nearer home, some -years of district work for the Plunket Society iu Feilding and Dargaville.
