THREEFOLD DRIVE

Japanese Attack On Burma Road LONDON. October 13. A communique from Chungking says that the Japanese have opened a three pronged drive on the Chinese section of the Burma Road. Japanese troops near the Yunnan-Burma border have been heavily reinforced in an effort to seize this section of China’s lifeline.

The Chinese have kept a tight grip on.much of this road, and a communique reports that in recent fighting two of the Japanese columns were stopped. The third column made progress, however, for some miles till the Chinese intercepted it. and fighting is in progress. In central Burma and in and round Mandalay, R.A.F. planes have been attacking rolling stock, railway tracks and buildings. All the aircraft returned.
