APPEALS BY MEN ON FURLOUGH

Change In Conditions

(By. 1 Telegraph.—Press Association.) AiUOKLAND, October 13.

-The conditions governing the lodging of appeals to remain in New Zealand by members of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force on furlough have been altered. The procedure whereby the Director of Mobilization had power to decide on the facts outlined in the applications to the Army which men should be allowed to make appeals is no longer to be followed. The Auckland Returned Services Association. which protested against the Director of Mobilization being given power to determine whether prima facie claims had been made out before forwarding the appeals to the armed forces appeal boards, has received the following telegram from the Minister of Armed Forces and* War Co-ordination, Mr. Perry:— . _ . . , “The War Cabinet’s decision was that appeals on the ground of undue hardship only should 'be considered. All applications of this nature, no matter how slender, received to date have been referred by the Army to the appeal boards for investigation. In view of the representations from various sources, the Avar Cabinet has now decided that all applications received 'by the Army will be referred to the appeal boards. There is. however, no change in the policy laid down by the War Cabinet that releases will be granted only in those cases where undue personal hardship is proved.”
