POST-WAR TRADE POLICY

Manufacturers’ Questions Dominion Special Service. NAPIER, October 13. Post-wnr trade policy engaged the attention of delegates attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Mannfacturers’ Federation today. It was decided to approach the Government regarding information on the following questions: What agreements, if any, has New Zealand entered into under lend-lease which would or might affect New Zealand manufacturers adversely or beneficially after the war? What obligations has New Zealand accepted under the mutual aid agreement of the United (Nations? To what extent has New Zealand entered into negotiations with other countries which may affect our obligations under the Ottawa agreement? What policy discussions has the Government had with the United Kingdom Government with reference to post-war trade? The federation desired to be kept fully appraised of developments relating to any of these questions. ~ „ . Mr. C. V. Smith, president, said that while it was recognized that certain agreements between countries could not be made public, information- on some of the questions asked would help clear the air. The conference desired that representations be made through the Minister of Industries and Commerce covering the requirements of New Zealand manu)> factoring industries in so far as New Zealand’s post-war trade policy was concerned.
