LATE BISHOP BRODIE

Body Taken To Cathedral (By I'ploirraph.—Brass Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 12. This evening the remains of Bishop Brodie were taken from Lewisham Hospital ‘to the Roman Catholic Cathedral. As the procession moved along Bealey Avenue and Barbadoes Street numbers of people stood still as a mark of respect to the late bishop. At the cathedral men of the Holy Name and Hibernian Societies formed a guard of honour, and present also in large numbers were members of the Grail, Children of Alary and the Catholic AVomen’s League. On the steps of the cathedral the body was received by Bishop Liston, of Auckland, who was attended by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Hugh O’Neill, Coadjutor Bishop of Dunedin, and clergy from all parts of the Dominion. The official prayers of the Church were said by Bishop Liston and the congregation of more than 2000, many of whom could not gain admittance to tiie cathedral, recited the rosary. Bishop Liston spoke briefly and feelingly of (he dead bishop, and the devotions concluded with Hie ' whole congregation sitiging “Eternal Rest.”

'The body will lie in state till 10 o’clock tomorrow evening.
