CHURCHILL’S PRAISE
Conduct Of Air War In Europe LONDON, October 12. Mr. Churchill has sent a message to the commander of the United States Eighth Army Air Forces, Lieut.-General Devers, in which he pays tribute to the "magnificent achievements of the Sth Air Force and the ground crews in recent days'.” The length and breadth of Germany had been struck deadly blows from the air, said Mr. Churchill, who referred to the value of the attacks in forcing the Germans to weaken other fronts. In a message to the Chief of the R.A.F. Bomber Command, Air Chief'Marshal Sir Arthur- Harris, Mr. CJnirchill said that the first week in October hud seen another phase in the great air offensive against Germany. The Luftwaffe had been forced back on the defensive, and had had to keep more and more planes to defend the Reich. “R.A.F., Dominion and Allied airmen arc helping to perfect the miglity weapon which you wield, watched by the world,” the Prime-Minis-ter added.
