GREAT TANK-KILLER
New British 171 b. Gun
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 10. The British 17-pounder anti-tank gun has proved a complete answer to the German Mark VI Tiger tank, and can be. trusted to knock out the most heavily armoured enemy tanks up to 1000 yards range.
Reports speak of the gun’s astonishing accuracy, and refer to it as a magnificent tank-killer. Ordinarily it would take two years to produce a gun from the time the designs were finished.. The first 17-pounder was produced in five months, and since then they, have been pouring from the factories in continuously increasing numbers. There are enough in service to meet all present requirements. The gun has a semi-automatic breech action which makes it possible to maintain a very high rate of lire. The trail is split, giving wide traverse. It fires fixed ammunition, with shell and cartridge fitted together like a rille cartridge and bullet.
