A midget searchlight, only as big as a walnut, yet so powerful that it will project a 1500 candle-power beam visible for GO miles, has been designed by Westinghouse engineers to aid the rescue of aviators forced down at sea. Packed with rubber life rafts with which all ocean-flying military aircraft are equipped, one of the tiny lamps will be worn by each man of a crew, fitted on <i hand round the head. The lamps arc wired to a small hand-cranked generator included in tlie raff, equipment, to supply power for radio. They also can be flashed by means of a trigger switch. The lamp has a single tungsten filament.
