LORD CHANCELLOR AGAIN

Atatu Wins Guineas Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, October 10. A sterling performance by Lord Chancellor in winning the principal event, the Mitchelson Cup, was the highlight ol tho Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday. Lord Chancellor carried 9.6 and ran the mile and a half in 2.32 3-5, time that has been bettered only once in the race since the distance was extended to its present length in 1921. The race was run solidly throughout, Flying Acre making the pace from the outset with Lord Chancellor content to lay about 10 to 12 lengths from him in the early stages. About half a mile from home Lord Chancellor began to improve his position and at the turn he was handy behind Flying Acre. Landveyor, Marble Fox, and Gay Lally. Once they straightened up Landveyor assumed command. He was almost immediately challenged by Marble Fox. Then Gay Lally and Lord Chancellor made efforts on the outside, Lord Chancellor finishing best to win by a short neck from Marble Fox. who bent Gay Lally by three-quarters of a length. Foxlore ran on solidly for fourth ahead of Flying Acre, Landveyor and Kinsman. Favoured with the run of the race, Atatu scored at double figures iu the Great Northern Guineas. After being lucked in behind the pacemakers. Sweet Biscuit and Skyhawk, Atatu came through on the rails at the distance to win by two lengths from Balfron, who finished gamely after having anything but a good run and a costly check near the half-mile. Skyhawk, who pulled hard early, battled on for third, and Grey Salute was a close fourth ahead of Mr. Rosa, Constitution. Foxwyn, Our Pat and Sir Dink. Constitution toiled to jump out cleanly, being last away, and was never dangerous. Having his first start. High Caste’s fullbrother, Na wall, made a fine impression by his win in the Welcome Stakes. He is green, but his class pulled him through at the end and lie won going away. Ink Spot and Golder’s Green both had a turn in the lead till reaching the straight, where Gay Chat and Nawab came on the scene, and Noiram was also up haudy. Over the last furlong, Nawab went on strongly to win by a length and a quarter from Ink Spot, who beat Gay Chat by a length au(l a half. Noiram was fourth, followed by Golder’s Green, Brolelov, Yours and Mine and Firm Lass.

The conditions were excellent, the weather being fine and the going easy. There was an attendance of 22,500 compared with 15.000 Inst year.
