BRAVERY IN THE AIR
New Zealanders Receive Awards
Pilot and navigator respectively in a bomber engaged in bombing Mannheim last month, Acting Flight Lieutenant Janies Henry Wright and Pilot Officer Sydney Colin Rive Mackie, both of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, hate been awarded Distinguished Flying Crosses according to official information received by the Air Department. Wellington. The citation accompanying the awards stated that the operation demanded a high degree of skill and the success achieved reflected the greatest credit on the efforts of those members of aircrew -who executed their task faultlessly. They had taken part in many previous operations and had. always displayed courage, determination and devotion to duty of a high order. Flight Lieutenant Wright was born in Masterton and was educated at the WaiTarapa High School. Mr. F. 11. Wright, 127 Dixon Street, Masterton, is his father. , Pilot Officer Mackie was also born in Masterton, and was educated at Takapuna Grammar School, Auckland. His next-of-kin is his mother, Mrs. M. 1. Mackie, 73 Vauxhall Road, Devouport, Auckland.
