The unusual spectacle of a half-grown opossum taking the air astride a husky dog was seen in an Invercargill street recently. The dog, which was held on a leash bj’ a boy, appeared quite unconcerned about his strange jockey, though it is hard to say whether the latter was happy or not as, being of .nocturnal habits, it appeared somewhat bleary in the sunshine. It is, of course, quite usual for young opossums to ride on their mothers’ backs after they have grown too large for the pouch.
