Mountbatten In Chungking CHUNGKING, October 8. ’The commander-in-chief of the AngloAmerican forces in South-east Asia, Admiral Mountbatten, has arrived in Chungking to confer with Marshal Chiang Kai-shek after talks with General Auchinleck in India. Admiral Mountbatten’s arrival is the prelude of heavy blows against Japan. Burma, Indo-China, Thailand, and Malaya. declared a Chinese Army spokesman.

The spokesman also stated that the Chinese had launched a general offensive in East China, and were making very favourable progress.
