Airfield In Holland (British Official Wireless.) (Received October 10, 8 p.m.) RUGBY, October 9. United States Eighth Air Force Marauders, escorted by R.A.F., Dominion and Allied Spitfires, attacked an airfield at Woensdrecht, in Holland, today, states the headquarters of the United States European forces. A few enemy' aircraft last night flew over parts of Essex. One or two reached the outskirts of London. Bombs were dropped at several points, but they caused little damage. A small number of casualties is reported. Two enemy aircraft were destroyed before midnight. It is estimated that 30 tons of bombs were dropped on London on Thursday night. Berlin radio says that the Luftwaffe attacked London and Norwich, where large tires were started.

The Air Ministry states: "Spitfires on patrol in the Channel yesterday encountered a formation of enemy fighters and destroyed four. “Typhoons attacked an airfield at Brest and Spitfires which escorted and supported them destroyed three enemy fighters. Two other enemy aircraft were destroyed by .Spitfires yesterday afternoon and Canadian pilots on patrol shot down an enemy flying-boat off the Dutch coast. Two of our aircraft are missing, but the pilot of one is safe.”
