Election Quandary
Si r> .—The publication of amended figures for the Eden electorate will give rise to further uneasiness regarding the conduct and count of the recent election. It is now reported that “because of the discovery of two small parcels of electoral votes among the licensing votes the position has again undergone a change. I give hereunder the figures from a roll
The disturbing features are: —(a) There are no small polling booths m the Eilen electorate, so how came the two small parcels of votes? (b) The first count announced as final included 101servicemen’s votes —credited to Fortune 363, Anderton 599, and Nixon 110. .(c) This amended count is said to be a civilian vote only, (d) With the addition of these parcels the grand total is now less by 56 votes, and the votes of the four unsuccessful candidates are reduced by 247. Reports from several other electorates would indicate that, there is something wrong somewhere. Never before has such bungling meant so much to so many. 1 am, etc’ E. K. CAMERON. Hawera, October 8.
