For a few months more than 14 years he remained as leader of the Chinese people, instilling into them the principles which have carried them through the adversities of the past 12 years and which have stiffienedi them to their wonderful resistance of Japanese aggression, Under the doctor’s guidance, education and. industry made immense advances,, in the republic, and Chinese youth is. now given the opportunity of educating itselt to take a prominent place in the world. When Dr. Sun Yat-sen died in 1026, China was fortunate in the possession of another outstanding leader competent to step into his shoes in Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, who, albly seconded by his equally talented wife, has succeeded in welding into unity most of the contending warlords -who had kept the country weak by their squabbles. . Today, the young republic, .with modern principles grafted upon its ancient civilization, takes its place among the nations guiding the world’s destiny.
