BOWLING TOURNEY
Accommodation Problem DUNEDIN, October 9. The immber of entries already received for the New Zealand championship bowling tournament, which will commence at Dunedin on January 12. indicates that by the closing date, November 29, the total will be unusually large. At least 16 fours are expected from Auckland, which would be a record number entry from that city for a tournament outside its own area. When the Dominion tournament, which was to have been held at Dunedin iu 1942, was cancelled, entries had been received from 464 players from other centres, and difficulty was experienced in arranging accommodation for them, as well as, in many cases, for their wives' and other relatives. Xt was pointed out yesterday that as 600 visiting players were expected for the coming tournament, the problem ot finding accommodation was proving much more difficult. The secretary of the New Zealand Bowling Association. Mr. R. S. M. Sinclair, said that already tho available hotel accommodation had been almost entirely reserved. and a steady stream of applications was still being received from prospective players. A limited number of private boarding house owners and private individuals liad volunteered to provide accommodation for a number of the visitors, but the facilities so far offering appeared to be tor from sufficient to meet the demand. Some of the student hostels, such as Stuart House, had undertaken to open for the period of the tournament, and any similar offers of accommodation, cither from institutions or private citizens, would greatly ease the position.
