IN ACTION AGAINST JAPANESE
N.Z. Troops In Pacific
The Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Pacific has been in active operations against the Japanese and has suffered casualties. . ' f rx r m This was announced last night by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, who said:—"lt was announced by the Prime Minister on September 28, and published in the Press the following day, that the New Zealand troops in the Pacific had moved to a forward area. It can now be stated that the troops have since been engaged in active operations against the Japanese, and that from reports received have carried out their tasks successfully and in a manner which reflected great credit on them.
“Our troops have suffered casualties as follows: — Killed in action, 29. Died of wounds, 2. Missing, 12. Wounded, 23. “The next-of-kin have been notified and the sympathy of the Government «has been conveyed to those who have suffered 'bereavement.”
