R.A.F. OVER REICH
Stuttgart Heavily Raided LONDON, October 8. The R.A.F. was over southern Germany in strength last night with Stuttgart as the main target, Clouds prevented an accurate estimate of the damage. 'Friedrichshafen, Munich and other targets in north-west Germany were also raided and mines were laid in enemy waters. From all operations, seven aircraft are missing. A. small force of enemy planes crossed the coast of England last night headed for London. Several persons are believed to be buried under the debris of four houses which were demolished in a residential district by direct hits. The raiders met an exceptionally hot reception from the city’s greatly strengthened defences. The raid was London’s noisiest and also its longest this year. At least two raiders were destroyed. Bombs fell in several London districts but only a few raiders reached London. The majority were over East Anglia and others spread over south-east England.
