OFFICIAL COUNTS

More Civilian Returns Completed

PLACINGS UNCHANGED Results of official counts of the civilian votes at the general election for 13 more electorates were received yesterday by the Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. L. Irwin. In no case have the election night placings of the leading candidates been altered by these returns, nor is it changed with the inclusion of the preliminary figures for the count of the service votes.

The official returns of civilian votes have still to come from 15 more electorates, including New Plymouth and Raglan, where there are very small majorities separating the two leading candidates. In New. Plymouth the National Party candidate, Mr. E. P. Aderman, h.as a lead of 38 votes over the Labour candidate, Mr. F. L. Frost, on the preliminary count of the civilian and service votes. There are, however, 1009 civilian votes yet to be taken into account (639 absent votes, 369 postal votes and one seaman’s vote). In Raglan the situation is much the same, except that the Labour candidate, Mr. R. Coulter, has the lead over the National Party candidate, Mr. R. J. Glasgow. The preliminary figures show a majority of 51 in favour of Mr, Coulter, with several thousand outstanding civilian votes yet to be counted. The official counts of civilian votes completed yesterday are given below. To these have been added the figures for the preliminary count of forces’ votes; which are also given separately in parentheses:— 1
