ALLIED OIL SUPPLIES
NEW YORK. October G. The reopening of the Mediterranean and the improvement in the anti-submar-ine warfare have enabled the British to contribute a larger proportion of oil and petrol to the Allied Forces from, their resources in the Middle East, indirectly answering the complaints of Senators Mead, Lodge and Brewster that the Western Hemisphere supplies a disproportionate share of petroleum, said President: Roosevelt at a Press conference. The President declared that the shipping situation had been the controlling factor, and he denied reports that the British were seeking to save oil reserves for future use. He pointed out that us long as (.-inkers had to use the Cape of Good Hope route the Middle East was further from all theatres of war than was the Western Hemisphere.
