SCHOOL SALARIES
Post-Primary Teachers Move For Revision
The removal of'anomalies in the salary scale of technical school teachers, including the abolition of a separate division for trade instructors, is expected. When appealing to the Minister of Education, Mr. Mason, to implement proposals agreed to in 1939 for the revision of salaries, representatives of the Technical School Teachers’ Association pointed out in May last that the existing scale was 23 years old. Apart from cuts, subsequently restored with the exception of a 5 per cent, reduction in 1922, the scale had remained unaltered, and in the meantime, between the years 1922 aud 1940, the nominal wage-index numbers had increased 20 per cent. The deputation did not consider that the proposals involved any violation of the stabilization regulations, as they were drawn up before the war broke out and were agreed to after nine months’ consultation by the Education Department, and teachers’ or ganizations, in October, 1939. It is understood that secondary school teachers also have taken steps to obtain a revision of their salary scale.
