WANTED SOME SPEED
LONDON, October 5.
The commander of the Allied Fifth Army, Lieutenant-General Clark, after dismissing a jeep because he “wanted some speed,” climbed into a tiny communications plane and ordered the pilot to land ns near as possible to the centre of Naples. The plane flew down the length of the Corso Umberto 50 feet above the ground, and landed tn the square near the railway slation. General. Clark stepped out an hour ahead of schedule.
