Today’s German communique says: “All sections of the German armed forces attacked the island of Kos, in the Dodecanese, on . Sunday, smashed the enemy resistance, and occupied the island in two days. Six hundred British prisoners were taken, also 2500 Badoglio troops. Forty guns, 22 aircraft, and one ship were captured. Mopping up of the enemy remnants There has Ibeen no confirmation of the German claim from Allied sources. Today’s Middle East communique, which usually tells of the everts of the previous day, simply' states that fightiug on the island continues. t
A correspondent in Cairo, however, says that while no one wants to anticipate bad news it was thought the enemy might quickly consolidate these positions. The Middle East communique states that R.A.F. Beaufighters on offensive patrol in the Kos area attacked enemy trucks and personnel on the with caiinou fire. No aircra-ft’are missing.
