Permanent Headquarters To Be Purchased

Tlie inteiition of the Church Army to purchase permanent headquarters in Auckland, costing £4OOO, was brought to the notice of tlie Christchurch Diocesan Synod last night by Captain S. R. Banyard, who also stated that an additional £2ooo’ was required for renovation and equipment. About £l2OO was in hand, he added, for those ob"i Captain Banyard thanked Archbishop West-Watsou for his interest in tlie Church Army’s work since its inception in New Zealand, and acknowledged the help generally that it had received from the Anglican Church. At the outbreak of war, he said, there were five trained workers from England in tlie Dominion and in addition 18 New Zealanders were engaged in the work. It was much to New Zealand’s credit, Captain Banyard said, that since the war began no fewer than 67 New Zealand laymen had lioeii placed at. work within the Dominion, in the Middle East, and in tlie Pacific area. As n result many servicemen bad been helped by their efforts.
