COAL SITUATION
Wellington’s Troubles
It was reported yesterday that as far as the city of Wellington was concerned tlie coal situation was worse than ever. Not only had bad weather been experienced on the West Coast, creating shipping difficulties at Greymouth and Westport, but these repeated delays in steamship deliveries had accumulated till most of the yards in the retail business were six or seven weeks behind with their orders. To add to the acuteness of the situation Wellington has been subjected during the last few days to a return of wintry weather, persistent rain and a cold southerly wind, which has helped to pile up the orders with the dealers. There was a collier on the way up from Westport yesterday morning, whose cargo would help to relieve the situation, but it was stated that it Would bo some weeks at the earliest before all existing orders could be fulfilled, even if favourable conditions prevailed.
