Charles Edward Sontherwood, aged 39, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 12 years, appeared before the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday for sentence. He was remanded for a week, his Honour directing that he should be examined by a psychiatrist and that further information should be obtained about earlier sexual offences of which he had been convicted. lie remarked that the present charge was not serious of its kind and that the sentence could not be out of proportion to the inherent gravity of the offence, but that it seemed likely that, in the interests of the '..public, a man such as the prisoner should
