Germans Admit Reverse LONDON, October 4.
The German news agency admits breaches in the defences ou the Vitebsk front west and north-west of Smolensk, and says the Russians are using strong artillery and tank forces. , While Moscow makes no mention ot battles on the Dnieper, a German communioue states: “The Germans, despite heavy resistance, successfully attacked the Russians who crossed the middle Dnieper." , Berlin radio said that the withdrawal toward the middle Dnieper was, on the whole, ended. It had been carried out in complete order. The disengaging movements were not yet complete cast ot Gomel and Mogilev.
