WAR AND DISEASE

French Population Falls

LONDON, October 4. The French population has fallen by more than 2.000,000 because of war losses, executions, and starvation, said Mr. B. S. Townroe, Secretary of the United Associations of Great Britain and France. New-born babies averaged under 61b in weight; 34 per cent of school children last year did not gain weight, and many lost weight. The average manual worker Jost from 20 to 30 pounds. Deaths from tuberculosis increased 60 per cent. An epidemic of infantile paralysis broke out this summer. It is harder to cope with diseases because drugs and medical supplies arc seriously short.
