Americans Shoot Down 75 Fighters WEST REICH TARGETS

The American Air Force struck another heavy blow against the Luftwnlie in daylight operations from Bri.tam today,' shooting down a total of 73 enemy fighters, it was announced by the Air Ministry. A strong force of Fortresses attacked an aircraft component factory in Frankfurt and other targets in west Germany, also an airfield at Saint Dizier, in France. Liberators engaged in simultaneous operations over Hie North Sea. The Fortresses mid Liberators encountered strong opposition and destroyed 56 enemy fighters. Fifteen heavy bombers are missing from all these operations. This was the Allies’ sixth big raid on Germany since Friday morning. On Friday there were day and night raids, on Saturday there were day and night raids, on Sunday a heavy night raid, and 12 hours later. Fortresses gave Frankfurt its share of the great new Allied bombing offensive. In last night’s attack on Cassel, just east of the Ruhr, 1500 tons of bombs were dropped Im half an hour. At the same time Mosquitoes were over Hanover, and other Mosquitoes bombed objectives in the Rhineland. Mines were also laid in enemy waters. Canadian Mosquitoes were out over northern France and the Low Countries on intruder patrols.
