Butter For Britain
Sir, —Surely New Zealanders are not going to wait for England to ask us to ration butter! In the midst of our plenty it is little enough to do for our generous Motherland, and I know I am speaking for the majority of New Zealand women when I say they are only too willing, nay, anxious, to make this small sacrifice, which will be of so much more value if made voluntarily,—l am, etc., NINA A. R. BARRER, Masterton, October 4. Sir, —Why all this fuss regarding butter rationing?. Let us assume our allowance is made Boz., thus reducing our normal consumption of 12oz. per week. The extra quantity available to each person in the British Isles would be l-10oz. per week (say, J-teaspoonful). The basis used in this.computation is the New Zealand population (less servicemen and farming families), say, one million, and the British Isles population (including servicemen, refugees and also, perhaps. Allied foreign troops, in the European zone), say, 40 million. How can so few give more to so many?—l am, etc., TIN TACKS. Napier, October 4.
