NEW U.S. TAX BILL

WASHINGTON. October 3.

The Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Morgenthau, is introducing a new Tax Bill designed to raise 10,650 million dollars. of which more than half will come from individuals. New income tax rates will bring in 6.610 millions, of which 3050 millions will be straight tax and the remainder will be enforced savings, refundable after the war. Corporation taxes will be increased by 1100 millions, excise by 2530 millions, and gift and estate duties by 400.000,000 dollars. The Associated Press of America, says the Bill will put the so-called luxuries of life, spirits, beer, chewing-gum, tobacco and travelling on an all-out war footing. Ten cent beers will be a thing of the past.
