AWARD OF D.F.C.
N.Z. Pilot’s Coolness (Received October 3, 9.20'~p.m.) LONDON, October 2. The' New Zealander, Wing Commander R. ‘E. Clouston, who before the war broke the records to the Cape and to New Zealand, has been awarded the D.F.C. “for great gallantry and coolness in attacking and destroying an enemy submarine.” He was one of those chosen for the hazardous task of flying into balloon barrage cables to test their effectiveness. This involved the risk of decapitation. Clouston wore a crash helmet-and covered the cockpit of his plane with steel mesh. _
HONOURED BY NORWAY (Received October 3, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, October 2. The King of Norway has conferred the Norwegian War Cross on the New Zealander, Wing Commander Patrick Geraint Jameson. R.A.F., D.S ; O., D.F.C., aged 31. Jameson hag led Norwegian fighters in many actions. He was a,survivor of the aircraft-carrier Glorious. anil, was one of the first- two pilots, to land. Hurricanes on the flight-deck of a carrier during the Norwegian campaign.
