VOTING IN PACIFIC

Official Count of General Election Votes SCRUTINEERS FROM N.Z. An opportunity to have scrutineers present at the official count of the general election votes nt certain places in the Pacific is to be given to representatives of the four political parties. This is not an investigation but a scrutiny such as is provided for at official counts in New Zealand and at which the candidates can be represented. It is understood that the Government will provide transport facilities from New Zealand to the Pacific, but that all other expenses will have to be paid by the parties themselves. The Labour Party’s representative wilt be the secretary of the party, Mr. M Moohan, and though the National Party also intends to appoint a representative his name was not available last evening. The representative of the Democratic Labour Party will be Mr. W. 15. Millar, Lower Hutt, who is a foundation member of the party and the president of the party's Wellington Suburbs election committee. Nd advice was available last night as to whether the Independent Group (People’s Movement) intends to send a representative. The scrutineers will he able to see for themselves bow the votes were collected, whether the declaration votes were correctly made, and the general method of conducting the election. It anv investigation is considered desirable, if is felt there Is ample power in the Electoral Act to enable this to be done. The situation in regard to the doubtful seats is §t»l unchanged, and must remain so till the completion of the official counts. It is expected that some of these will be finished within the next day or so, and even possibly today.
