OLD BARBED WIRE
The Government’s Price Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, October 1.
Auckland inrehauts who have been unable to obtain barbed wire are complaining that the Government is insisting on the payment of the price ow nef wire for old stocks which have been lying out in the open at Dargaville, Whangarei, Rotorua and elsewhere. The representative of one firm stated that the Government had a large amount of new barbed wire, but would not sell it till the old wire, much of which was rusty, had been bought at the full price. Stating that the fixed price to wholesalers of new barbed wire was £47/10/a ton, he said his firm considered the old rusty used wine was not worth more than £37/10/-, and even at that price it might not be satisfactory, as it hud been out in the open so long and might break. If it were bought at the reduced price, the Government could fix a correspondingly lower price to be charged by retailers.
