PATRIOTIC FUNDS
Some Big Donations
The National Patriotic Fund Board has received contributions to the patriotic funds from Government trading departments amounting to £19,700. It has also received substantial support from other quarters. The amounts are as follows: Post and Telegraph Department, Railways Department, and hydro-electric branch of the Public Works Department, £5OOO each ; State Fire Insurance Department, £2000; National Broadcasting Service and Commercial Broadcasting Service. £lOOO each; Mines Department, £500; Native Trust Department, £2OO. The board also recently received £2OOO from a national organization which desires to be anonymous, and £5OO each from the Film Exchanges Association of New Zealand and Theatre Management Ltd. The Patriotic Board’s year ended on September 30, and these contributions will assist the 11 provincial patriotic councils which have the responsibility each year of raising the finance required by the board for work of a national character and alsff for their own local requirements. Except for the £lOOO given between them by the Film Exchanges Association and Theatre Management Lid., which is to bo shared equally by the Auckland and Wellington provincial councils, the other contributions mentioned will be allocated to the provincial councils on a pro- rata basis.
