“Princess” Series Of Health Stamps OVERSEAS DEMAND
“We are delighted with the wonderful success which attended the opening ot the sale of 'Princess” health stamps,” said the secretary of the Olaki Children's Health Camp Committee, Mr. C. Meach en, last night. “It was imagined that the triangular-shaped stamps with the heads of the Royal Princesses might be popular, but I did not think that the sales would be so heavy. “In the General Post Oilice stamp branch, which handles overseas sales sales to philatelists all over the worldmore than £ll,OOO was taken in the day, compared with £2500 in the whole ot October, last year. About 20,000 ol the special souvenir covers issued free by the post oilice in connexion with the stamp issue, were also disposed of." Mr. Meaehen indicated that this wa.i the return from the overseas sales only, and did not include sales over the counters of the city post offices. Local philatelists had shown keen interest and secondary school pupils had also bought well, taking advantage of the souvenir cover issue. A great (leal ot the credit for the success of the first day was <lue to the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, who were heartily co-operating in the health camp moveThe chief postmaster, Mr. A. Bellow, advised that lid. stamps to the value ot £9O and 3d. stamps to the value ot £2OO were sold over the counter of the chief post office up to about 3 p.m. yesterday. Sales at the suburban offices were not then available. Mr. Fellow added that yesterday’s sales were treble those of any previous first-day sales in Wellington.
