Menacing Crimean Isthmus (Received September 30, 1.25 a.m.) LONDON, September 29. The Russians have launched a new offensive inutile Zaporozhe area, says Vichy radio. Heavy fighting, is going on southeast and south of the town, and German reconnaissance planes report large reinforcements behind the Russian lines. Violent fighting continues along tna whole front, particularly on the central sector, where both sides have brought up reinforcements. The Russians hate succeeded in landing troops in some strength on the western bank of the Dnieper in the vicinity of Kiev. “Pravda” says that the Germans are launching 10 or 12 counter-attacks each day ou the approaches to the Dnieper in the Kiev direction, but the Red has gained such momentum that nothing seems capable of stopping it. The Berlin news agency says the W sians in the Chernigov area have brought up strong fresh forces in an attempt to drive through the German rearguard. The Exchange Telegraph Agency s Stockholm correspondent, says that Berlin now emphasizes the fierceness o fighting south-east and east of _ rozhe, where the Russian plan aims to cut off the retreat of the Germans in the Crimea.
