Assistance Sought By Returned Men
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 29. Among applications received .by the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council for assistance from returned eoldiers have been requests for help toward divorce costs. “Regrettable as it may seem-, it. is nevertheless true, stated Air. AV. S. AlacGibbon, chairman of the standing committee, at today s meeting of the council. “It is hard not to he able to see the men through, but we dm not consider that we could supply tunas for that purpose. These cases arise out ot unfortunate domestic circumstances during the absence of soldiers from their homes.” , , . , Air. AlacGibbon moved that it be a remit to the annual conference of patriotic councils that the Government be asked •to provide legal advice service to soldiers returned from overseas who through farce of circumstances. wished to consider taking divorce proceedings.
