New Set Of Records For Trentham (By St. Simon.) In June, 1938, a re-survey was made of the racing track at Trentham. when :t was found that at some of the starting posts there was a variation of a few feet from actual distances. The stewards therefore decided to expunge all existing time records excepting Gloaming’s half-mile in the Kelburn Plate in 1921, in dosec., this being accomplished on the straight halt mile. A new set of the fastest times recorded at Trentham since June, 1935, has been taken out by the writer for the Wellington Racing Club. They are as follows

Raceless Saturday Abolished. A Press Association message from Canberra received yesterday reported that the Federal Cabinet had abolished the raceless Saturday throughout Australia. Jor the past year there has been no racing in the Commonwealth on the first Saturday each month. The lifting of the ban will not operate till November, because it would be too late for programmes to be arranged for the first Saturday iu October, which is this week.

Riders at Hastings. T The Hawera jockeys N. .Holland and L. J. Clutterbuck will be riding at Hastings on Saturday. Holland’s mounts include IValk Off, Crucible. Good Track T,ikely. , . , Advice from Hastings yesterday slated that the track was in splendid order for tiie semi-final gallops and is expected to ue in the best of condition for baturday s meeting. Even in winter the Hastings track seldom gets very bad and heavy going there for a meeting in the other seasons is rare. The spring tracks to date have been in the heaviest of winter conditions and dry going this week at Hastings might upset existing opinions about public form. In Jcfferd’s Stable. Mr. J. G. Alexander’s Captain Bunsby gelding, Bunsby, who was prepared by his owner for his first engagements tins season at Marton, has joined up with J. H. Jefferd’s team at Hustings, where other horses are being trained for the same owner.
