Private Enterprise
Sir, —This election has certainly opened my eyes, and no doubt others, like myself. find themselves deeply shocked by what has now been made crystal clear, that the Government now returned to power for another three years, at least, is out to smash private enterprise. Mr. Fraser we know to be an honest gentleman who would not try to mislead the public, and in his advertisements (with his photograph appended thereto) has stated that ‘'Private enterprise means unemployment”; therefore he must_ be out to smash “private enterprise.” Now, we who believe in private enterprise have to work our hardest to see that it is not eliminated in this country, ( and for a start, all those who are interested iu its retention must be convinced, without a shadow of doubt, where the Government stand on this question, and surely they cannot have any doubt now, after what they have been told during this election campaign. Mr. Churchill has recently publicly stated in England that they must make sure that “private enterprise” is retained at all costs, otherwise our soldiers, sailors and airmen will not be able to find employment after the war. I have three sons in the fighting forces and would prefer they stood on their own feet after the war and that without any assistance from the Government or anyone else they worked out their own future and used their energy and brains to this end, without having to seek employment from the Government and thusretain their independence and self-respect. Let all who 'feel deeply on this , vital question, as I do, start now and work for the retention of “private enterprise,” and when the next elections come round make this a vital plank in those elections. Remember Mr. Churchill’s advice not to take too much notice of “wordy politicians.”—l am, etc., R. H. SPENCER. F.P.A.N.Z., Public Accountant. Palmerston North, September. 27.
