MAKING WELLINGTON PEOPLE CHEER
No less an objective than getting the entire population of Wellington out for a monster parade of the ligating, civil and industrial services on July 10, was mentioned last night at a meeting of the street day and armed forces subcommittee of the Wellington Liberty Loan Committee. For the three weeks in which displays by the armed forces will be featured, starting on June 14 with Navy Week, the aim is to give the public something they have not had before; no niile-long processions, but novel, in foresting shows. Mr. W. B. Bussell, organizer, said it was hoped to have a Liberty Loan auction market at which articles belonging to persons who had not the ready money to buy bonds could be sold and I lie proceeds devoted to bond purchases. With tile outdoor programme generally it mis hope'll to create an atmosphere which would induce thousands of persons not to wait to be contacted to buy bonds but to come in for them. There would be a special post office at Liberty Corner for their sale. A proper stage would be erected at Liberty Corner, with an appropriate background in oils during each of the three services’ weeks. There will be street bond-selling stands from armoured carriers..wit h W.W.S.A. women doing the selling. "Wellington has not jet been enthusiastic about but we are going to make them cheer and buy,’’ said a member. Senior members of the Navy, Army and Air Force at the meeting promised full cooperation.
