JEWS OF SALONIKA
Greek Help Unavailing
LONDON, June 8.
The Greek Information Office states that the German'persecution of Jews in Greece has made the Greeks intensely indignant. „ . The council of Athens University, ns a result of intolerable persecution of Jews in Salonika, petitioned the occupation authorities requesting that Jews in 'Salonika of Greek nationality should .be treated as Greek subjects. The petition was rejected, after, which there was a wholesale deportation of Jews from Salonika. The first batch of 3500 Jews was sent by rail early in March, 1943, to Poland. Men, women and children were herded in trucks, which were sealed, leaving one small window for ventilation. One petrol can of water was allowed for each truck. There have been further deportations since. A large number, of victims are reported to have died during the journey.
