INTENSITY OF ATTACK Allies’ Hammering Of Pantelleria

ROME RADIO ACCOUNT LONDON, June 9. Rome radio has given a lengthy statement on the situation of the Pantelleria garrison which suggests, it is commented in London that the Italians are being prepared for important news about the island. The radio said that the attacks on Pantelleria followed logically from the occupation of Tunisia, as it was a stepping stone to Sicily. The island had had a number of naval bombardments as well as air raids since Tunis fell. There were more than 140 raids from the air, and in the last few days there had been at least 12 every day. For some months the island had been raided continually at night, probably with the idea of destroying the rest of the garrison.
