The United States will reach its maximum war production next year, according to Mr. Donald Nelson’s 10th production communique, which revealed the following:— . . . , First, the total munitions production during April approached 5.000.000,000 dollars —7 per cent, above expectations. Secondly, aircraft valued nt 1,649,000,000 dollars reached their objective. Compared with March the output of heavy bombers rose' 18 per cent., and naval fighters, 50 per cent. The overall plane production rose 11 per cent., and planes armament and related materials 8 per Thirdly, the value of warships deliv©red rose 3 per cent., but the tonnage deelined from 186,000 to 157,000 displacement tons. The production of nriny and navy vessels rose 3 per cent. Fourthly, the output of merchant ships rose 11 per cent, to a new maximum of 149 merchantmen of a gross deadweight tonnage of 1,600.000 delivered a 7. per cent, increase comnnred witli March. Fifthly, the artillery output was greatpr than scheduled for any month ot LJM--44 Mr. Nelson added that by the. end of the rear, the monthly rate of increase would taper off considerably as industry approached its maximum output some time in 1944.
