E.P.S. ALLOCATION DOWN
The principal variation in the . draft estimates presented to the Wellington City Council by the estimates committee yesterday the allocation of £9OOO for the Emergency Precautions Service, shelters' overdraft reduction, and rent and maintenance of shelters, compared with an expenditure of £33,000 in the previous year. An item of £20,000 appears on account of Rehabilitation M orks Appropriation, for which there was no expenditure in the past year.
Committee expenditure in the past year fell short of the estimated total by a net sum of £22,233, only overexpenditure being £519 by the airport committee. • . “In compiling the estimates the hospital levy and the. Fire Board levy have been taken at last year's figures, as the final figures are not available. Any increase ill the hospital levy ttjll be reflected in the hospital rate, and it is suggested that liny variation in the Fire Board levy be adjusted by transfer from the contingency vote,” said the city treasurer, Mr. B. O. Peterson, in making his reP °The estimated receipts for the year amount to £873,150, and the estimated expenditure not controlled by committees to £603,911, leaving £269,239 for committee expenditure. .The estimates comrnitee recommended to the council that the allocations of this sum be, as fol'°'works, £176,241; reserves, £23,890; baths and beaches. £4250; play areas, £1750; zoo, £6408; traffic, £16,000; libraries, £20,500; cemeteries, £8000; sanitary, £7000; airport, £5200; total, £269,239. , . ’ The recommendation of the estimates committee was adopted.
