RUTHLESS SEA KILLER

New Nazi Naval Chief (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 30. Admiral Raeder, at his own request, has been relieved of his post as Coui-niander-in-Chief of tlie German Navy, according to Berlin radio. He has been replaced by Admiral Doenitz, commander of the German U-boat fleet. Herr Hitler is retaining Raeder as his first naval adviser. Commentators in London interpret the change as the dismissal of Raeder, who has been supplanted by Germany's greatest U-boat expert and ruthless sea killer.

Reuter’s naval correspondent, pointing out that tlie German surface fleet has taken only a limited part in the war compared with U-boats, says that Doenitz’s influence after successes by submarines is probably increasing. He may have claimed unemployed personnel from surface ships to man U-boats for which crews are more difficult to obtain. Doenitz is doubtless aiming at an early big intensification of the Üboat war.
