New Zealand Corvettes SUCCESSFUL ACTION OFF GUADALCANAL
The Prime Minister, Dlr. Fraser, stated last night that lie had received official information that two ships of tlie Royal New Zealand Navy serving witli Admiral W. F. Halsey’s forces in tlie South Pacific area sank a large Japanese submarine on Friday night. In a message to Mr. Fraser releasing the information, Admiral Halsey said the submarine was sunk off Guadalcanal on the night of January 29-30 by two New Zealand corvettes. They captured one enemy officer. One of tlie vessels suffered minor damage. Tlie alert and courageous action of the crew of those gallant little ships merited tlie highest praise.
