President Roosevelt sent a mes_sage_ this morning to the American forces in NorJ'h Africa, in which he said his visit to North Africa had increased his assurance and deepened pride in tlie leaders and men of the armed forces. All were deserving of the highest commendation. "I return to the United States with renewed confidence that tlie American soldiers. equipped witli the best equipment the world can produce and led by men who have proven themselves in battle, and all imbued witli the will to win, shall be victorious.” he stated. It is announced that the United States casualties in Tunisia to date tire, 211 killed, 532 wounded, and 515 missing, including 226 reported prisoners of war.
THREAT BY THAIS
CHUNGKING, January 28. The presence of Thai troops on the Burma border of southern Y._uiinan Province is interpreted here as indicating a secret military agreement between Japan and Thailand. It is believed that Japan may have bought Thai support by promising tlie transfer after the war of certain Chinese territory to Thailand.
